Wool is biodegradable, breathable, highly versatile, and is typically made from the fleece of sheep. It is considered to be one of the most sustainable fabrics. Wool has antibacterial properties so it does not require frequent washing. It is naturally water repellent, fire-resistant, and long-lasting.

All wool used in PÆTRIA_design collections is certified cruelty-free and was manufactured under the highest standards of GOTS and/or The Woolmark Company, and we also ensure that all our wools are certified mulesing-free. Our signature handmade knitwear collection “Evig” is entirely made of pure wool produced by the Icelandic Istex, which is today 80% proudly farmer-owned and holds the world`s highest animal welfare and quality standards, as well as assuring working conditions that comply with the strict Icelandic laws.

    Fiona knitted cardigan is that perfect little seasonless pop of color in your wardrobe. An ode to femininity, fully handmade (yes, the buttons too), praised with an amazing flower-like pattern, slightly puffed shoulders, and a dropping braided pattern at the bottom hem, for an enhanced waist. Fiona is gentle, yet conspicuous, imbued with the allure of simple elegance that leaves no one indifferent. This piece is extremely delicate and lightweight and can easily fit into a purse, so it`s always on hand.

    Due to the delicacy of its fine mohair wool pattern details, as well as the handmade buttons, it takes couple of days to knit one Fiona cardigan.

    Freyja is another sustainable knit from PÆTRIA design`s EVIG collection – hand-knitted and hand-embroidered cardigan, that brings back the slow art of embroidery, luxurious feels of the highest quality Icelandic wool (OEKO-TEX Certified) and unique knitting patterns and details. Freyja is made entirely of one strand of a single-ply fragile Plötulopi unspun wool, resulting in it being exceptionally light and airy, with gently padded shoulders and puffed arms. Just like our Chloë cardigan, Freyja is knitted by only a few experienced members of the amazing team of knitters we work with, that all wield the specific hand-twisting yarn technique required when working with this delicate wool. The handmade wool pom-poms and roses embroidery on this model are performed first after the piece has been knitted and by using several different stitching techniques and thread colors. Freyja takes pride in being both slowly and sustainably designed and created.

    Due to the delicate collar knitting pattern, grid pattern and flower embroidery, it takes up to 9 days to create one Freyja cardigan.

The fluffy loops in black and white wool require a very precise and time-consuming knitting technique, but result in a gorgeous voluminous silhouette and a long-lasting, high-quality garment. The yarn Maud is made of is both hand-pulled and handspun, which creates the perfect thickness and feel of every single thread. Invisible inside clasps make it possible to button up the jacket.

    Saga is a fully hand-knitted and hand-embroidered artisanal piece. A midi length style coat with a slightly pointy hood, made in 100% organic, mulesing-free, and naturally dyed wool. Saga is knitted in off-white wool and tightly embroidered with black wool threads by using a very precise and time-consuming embroidering technique with a thick needle.
